Phoenix police officer shot multiple times in protective vest is expected to
The officer, whose name is still unknown, was taken to a hospital and listed in serious condition. The motorist fired off multiple shots before driving off from the scene at Campbell Ave and 12th St, ABC15 reported.
“Thank goodness he was wearing his (body armor) vest”, police Chief Joseph Yahner told reporters, adding that rounds struck the armor.
Officials say a Phoenix police officer has been shot during a traffic stop and is in serious condition.
Police do not have a full description of the suspects, but they say one is described as a white, heavy-set man. The shooter or shooters remain at large, though police found the vehicle involved in the traffic stop abandoned nearby.
The officer did not return fire, Howard said. The details of his injuries weren’t listed, but he is suspected to survive, according to KJZZ. Police believe two people were in the vehicle.
The shooting occurred in a largely residential area about four miles north of downtown.
