Pickerington Schools Reinstates Pay For Teacher Charged In Deadly Domestic Dispute
On Wednesday, the district said it will reinstate Luke’s pay “following a review of the 911 call, discussions with district legal counsel and the Ohio Department of Education, and consultation with the district board of education”.
Prosecutors have dropped homicide charges against second-grade teacher Angela Luke, 40, in the fight with her husband Daniel Luke, 42, at their Bloom Township home, the Lancaster Eagle-Gazette reported Wednesday night. Eventually, Angela Luke got her two children into the vehicle and police could hear the children urging her to drive away, but Daniel Luke was apparently hanging onto the auto, fell and was struck. “My dad hit my mom and he pushed her into a flower pot”.
The prosecution invoked nolle prosequi, meaning they will no longer prosecute because the case requires further investigation. “Please come help, hurry!”
She and her sister got into a vehicle with her mom, but her dad latched on to the auto, she told the dispatcher.
Then you can hear the girl talking to her mother, saying, “Go fast mommy, go fast!”
The dispatcher asked again whether her father had ever been violent before. The district chose to reverse its decision and pay Angela Luke after listening to the 9-1-1 call.
A report says Daniel Luke was fatally injured during a domestic dispute that carried over into their driveway.
Child: He’s pinning her to my bed and he’s making marks on my mom, and he’s like, and he’s not letting her through or anything.
The District announced earlier this week 40-year-old Angela Luke would be placed on unpaid suspension after she was accused of killing her husband in a domestic quarrel on Sunday.
Pickerington Education Association President Heather Miller says, “Not only do they have to worry about the ramifications of reporting the domestic violence, but they also have to worry about whether they will have a job after the domestic violence”.
A document filed Monday afternoon with the Fairfield County Municipal Court indicates the charges were dropped, but in such a way that they could be refiled or the case could go to a grand jury for possible indictment. David Ball, public relations director of Pickerington Schools, said Angela Luke has been placed on unpaid suspension as a result of the charges, which Ball said is the district’s standard procedure.
