Pickerington teacher reinstated after charges dropped in husband’s death
Angela Luke, 40, pleaded not guilty on Monday to aggravated vehicular homicide and reckless homicide after authorities say she fatally struck Daniel Luke, 42, while driving away from their Lancaster, Ohio, home, Sunday night.
On suspension: Angela Luke is a second grade teacher at Tussing Elementary in Reynoldsburg and has been employed there for at least 11 years.
The dispatcher asked again whether her father had ever been violent before.
The domestic dispute reportedly started at 8 p.m. Sunday and continued until 9:10 p.m.
The 40-year-old, who had denied the charges, was also suspended from her teaching job Pickerington Schools District. About 10 minutes in, Luke’s daughter is heard saying “Go fast, Mommy”, according to the Columbus Dispatch.
Witnesses at the scene told the dispatcher that Daniel Luke was bleeding from his ear.
Pickerington Local School District, the suburban Columbus system where Angela Luke teaches, reinstated her after its superintendent, Valerie Browning-Thompson, listened to a recording of the 911 call on Wednesday, according to district spokesman David Ball.
The girl goes on to describe them trying to drive away, but says her dad wouldn’t let them go. He was hanging onto the auto, and he fell off. My father’s dead!
Luke’s 12-year-old and 8-year-old daughters were in the vehicle at the time.
“He’s pinning her to my bed and he’s making marks on my mom, and he’s like, and he’s not letting her through or anything”, the girl said through various bouts of tears and screams for help and for her father to stop. It does not appear that he or his wife had a criminal record.
A frightened 12-year-old called Fairfield county 911.
Now the prosecution have agreed to drop the charges in nolle prosequi as they believe the case requires further investigation, NBC4i reports. Our office will not be commenting publicly on this investigation’.
