Pierson-El Named to Hornung Award Watch List
Ex- Elizabeth High star Jahad Thomas, now at Temple, was one of 44 players named to the Paul Hornung Award preseason watch list on Monday.
Watch list announcements will continue throughout the next two weeks, with the watch lists for the Rimington Trophy (Center) and the Mackey Award (Tight End) unveiled on Wednesday.
Defensive tackle Robert Nkemdiche is among 78 players on the preseason watch list for the 21st annual Chuck Bednarik Award, which honors the College Defensive Player of the Year. He ranked fourth in the SEC with 26.0 yards per kickoff return, and his 1,786 all-purpose yards were the sixth-most in a season at LSU.

Over his three-year Red Raider career, Grant has caught 165 passes for 2021 yards with 17 touchdowns and returned 48 kicks for 1152 yards and two touchdowns. The Ducks return four receivers with at least 600 yards receiving last season – no other FBS program can boast that depth entering the 2015 season – but the secondary’s depth chart is hazier after graduating three starters. The junior running back garnered 2014 All-Conference US second team honors after starting 12 games for the Miners.
Already proving himself as a shut down defender, Jackson was named the Pac-12’s Defensive Freshman of the Year and earned a host of Freshman All-American selections. The 21-year-old Cibolo, Texas, native improved by leaps and bounds in 2014, throwing for 2,695 yards and 22 touchdowns, while rushing for 705 yards and 6 touchdowns. Another superlative is that he had a nation’s best 10.7 yards per pass attempt.
Louisiana kicks off the season September 5th in Lexington against the University of Kentucky.
