This isn’t the first time issues have been raised about Allegiant’s performance. Allegiant Air reports filed with regulators show more than 100 serious incidents in less than two years.
“We are aware of Sunday’s 60 Minutes report involving Allegiant Air and its safety record”, Concord City Manager Lloyd Payne said in a statement. Shuemake says it’s a step in the right direction for safety, but he thinks there are management issues as well.
The FAA has also responded to the investigation, defending its safety standards and practices. “You can bring in as many new aircraft as you like, but if they aren’t maintained and if the pilots are not given the power to make split-second decisions when there’s a safety problem, that’s a big, big reason to avoid the airline”, he said.
Jessica Stoffel was so afraid on Allegiant Flight 175 over Mesa, Ariz., that she grabbed the stranger next to her and squeezed his hand.
The broadcast revealed that the airline’s planes were three and a half time more likely to have mid-air mechanical failures than rival United States airlines, according to Federal Avaiation Administration documents.
All major airlines break down once in awhile.
“The times [with Allegiant Air] were more convenient, [and] there were no connections”. The CBS News program said Allegiant may be the most profitable and risky airline in the country, citing their own analysis of public records revealing serious issues in flight. Airport Manager Bob Whitmer tells us, they’ve had no incidents with Allegiant. Jones was on a plane with failing brakes.
FAA records obtained in 2016 by Alternative Research Services owner Robert MacArthur found the airline was plagued by emergency landings, failed takeoffs, engine troubles and other issues. Its wing almost touched the ground.
In the agency’s defense, the FAA Associate administrator Ali Bahrami said in a letter that “The FAA is vigilant in scrutinizing the actions of all airlines and is prepared to act on all information”.

In Sunday’s episode of “60 Minutes”, CBS Correspondent Steve Kroft shared his extensive investigation into the Las Vegas-based low-budget airline Allegiant Air. As of February 2, Allegiant operated 37 McDonnell-Douglas MD-80 planes and 53 Airbus A320 jets.
Allegiant isn’t happy about the report. Deutsche Bank upgraded shares of Allegiant Air from a “hold” rating to a “buy” rating and boosted their target price for the stock from $130.00 to $180.00 in a report on Thursday, December 21st.
“It is unfortunate and disappointing that CBS 60 Minutes has chosen to air a false narrative about Allegiant and the FAA”.
The report of “60 minutes” also highlights an incident involving Captain Jason Kinzer, who was sacked in 2015 because smoke was found in the cabin shortly after the take off (sources say). “So I try to push on Allegiant to- to- clean up their operation”.
