Pinkett Smith tackles no diversity at Oscars
Jada Pinkett Smith, who has questioned whether people of colour should attend the Oscars, attending this year’s Golden Globe Awards. But now the 2016 host Chris Rock has even referenced the controversy by referring to The Oscars as “The White BET Awards” in a tweet.
The renowned actor and comedian equated the Oscars to the “White BET Awards” in a tweet that contained a promo for the award show.
The 2016 Academy Award nominations were announced on Thursday, prompting a lot of needed and important criticism on the Internet. The directing category features only one person of color (Alejandro G. Iñárritu), with no women being recognized.

For the second consecutive year, all 20 acting nominees white. “With much respect in the midst of deep disappointment”.
Chris Rock, meanwhile, chimed in on Friday while promoting the February 28 ceremony, which he’ll be hosting.
The tag #OscarsSoWhite began trending on social media, and many online demanded to know why black-led films like Concussion, Creed, Beasts of No Nation, and Straight Outta Compton had been snubbed.
“It nearly seems like a sequel to a year ago”, commented Gil Robertson, president of the African American Film Critics Association. Isaacs added she doesn’t believe that there is a pattern but finds that all-white nominations are disappointing.
Rock, who last hosted the Oscars in 2005, has always been outspoken about race issues in Hollywood.
