Pinterest surpasses 100 million monthly users
In Pinterest’s five-year history, the virtual scrapbooking site has remained mum on its user numbers, only pointing the press to stats reported by third-party firms like comScore. The data released on Wednesday reveals that there are approximately 55 million Pinterest users in the U.S.
The bulletin board platform had amassed more than 50 billion user pins, according to company executives, making it more of a catalog than other networks. While social media has dominated the headlines over the past few years, search advertising has remained the dominant force in the digital ad ecosystem, grabbing the biggest share of marketing dollars.

According to eMarketer February report, the expected Pinterest user base would be 47.1 million monthly active users in 2015, and rise to 59.3 million by 2019. In January, it officially launched its Promoted Pin advertising product.
The number of Pinners doubled in the past 18 months. Worldwide users have doubled in the previous year and they now make up about 45 percent of total users.
