Pirates put Josh Harrison on 15-day DL with thumb injury
Harrison jammed his thumb Sunday while stealing a base in the seventh inning of a win over the Cleveland Indians. The team is officially saying that Harrison will seek a second opinion and they will offer an update following that.
Josh Harrison has torn thumb ligaments. In 75 games, he was hitting.279/.313/.384 with four home runs and 22 RBIs.
Speaking of which – well, sort of – the Bucs will place Harrison on the disabled list to clear space for the newly acquired Travis Ishikawa.
“My hands got stuck in the dirt, got cut up a little bit”, he said.
As for a prognosis, Harrison said, “I’m still trying to figure that out myself”.
Harrison said the thumb feels better than it did yesterday but is still swollen.
The Pirates placed the 27-year-old Harrison on the 15-day DL Monday. “I’ll get through it”.
The 28-year-old signed a four-year, $11 million contract with The Pirates on January 16 as a free agent.
Harrison will be replaced at third base in tonight’s lineup by Jung Ho Kang.
“” “If it was me, I”d say let”s go right now,” he said. Washington star Bryce Harper won’t participate in the All-Star Home Run Derby because his father isn’t available to pitch to him. ” “It”s one of those things, I guess, where only time will tell.”. But he has been an invaluable asset as a utility player, playing 56 games at third, and getting more than a dozen starts at second base and in the outfield.
The Pirates will also play without LF Starling Marte tonight. “”” “We”ve got a good team, and Clint (Hurdle) has said it before “ it”s going to take us all.”. Marte left Sunday’s game with discomfort in his side and will sit out tonight.
