Pistons center Andre Drummond to take part in NBA Slam Dunk Contest
Andre Drummond may have been snubbed from starting in the NBA All-Star Game, but he’s going to get some extra work in during the weekend.
The dunk contest is part of the NBA’s All-Star weekend.
The field for the NBA Slam Dunk Contest scheduled for February 13 in Toronto is set, according to league sources.
Allan Houston (1994) and Jerry Stackhouse (2000) were previous Pistons participants in the dunk competition.
Many fans will see this list and will pick LaVine as the early favorite to repeat last year’s success, but Barton and Gordon are the two candidates with the best chances to knock off Zach while giving fans an fantastic dunk showcase. He tallied a flawless 50 by tossing the ball up and putting it through his legs for a reverse slam, all while wearing a Tune Squad jersey from the movie Space Jam.
This report comes on the heels of LaVine’s rim-rocking teammate Andrew Wiggins telling ESPN’s Ramona Shelbourne that he won’t be participating in the contest, even though the festivities are in his home town of sorts.
Giving the big man, Drummond, some hope, look back at 2008 champion Dwight Howard or 2011 victor Blake Griffin.
Even without a Canadian flavor, though, the dunk contest promises to be awesome. He has averaged between 32 and 33 minutes per game as a starter, and has had a plethora of double-doubles this season.
