Pistons rescind 3-player, 3-team deal with Rockets and 76ers
More from this breaking story inside the Chat Sports iPhone and Android apps! Anthony reportedly will be sent from Houston to Philadelphia in a separate trade.
The Detroit Pistons agreed to acquire Donatas Motiejunas before the trade deadline on Thursday, but the Lithuanian has yet to get medical clearance.
Anthony will return to Detroit. The examination is likely a precaution for the Pistons as Motiejunas says he feels good and is ready to go. However, the latter has been dealing with nagging back issues all season long and has not played in a game since Nw Year’s Eve.
The Pistons did their due diligence, insisting on a 72-hour extension in order to conduct Motiejunas’ physical, and on Monday afternoon the news came out that DMo had in fact failed his physical.
The Pistons had back specialists in NY examine Motiejunas on Friday and doctors at the Detroit Medical Center are reviewing his records to determine his status. They also received a protected first-round pick from the Pistons.
The decision may have something to do with the Rockets hoping to become a much better defensive team, especially if they want to contend for the Western Conference title against the likes of the Golden State Warriors, LA Clippers, and the San Antonio Spurs.
Motiejunas had back surgery last April. But the back injuries of Motiejunas could void the trade. Forward Anthony Tolliver sprained his knee in Sunday’s game against the Pelicans, and was scheduled for an MRI.
Tolliver had moved into the starting lineup the last two games after the Pistons traded Ersan Ilyasova and Brandon Jennings to the Magic for Tobias Harris.
Motiejunas is now averaging 5.6 PPG and 2.1 RPG, with Thornton providing 10.0 PPG and 2.4 RPG.
Fantasy Impact: The 25-year old big man has been limited to 18 games this season.
