Pittsburgh Steelers RUMORS: Ben Roethlisberger Could Play Against Cleveland Browns
Too often last Sunday, the Pittsburgh Steelers left Lawrence Timmons and Ryan Shazier stranded against an Oakland Raiders wideout.
Pittsburgh’s insistence on not declaring Roethlisberger out could have been the kickstarter for this weekend of intrigue, although Roethlisberger has made a career of healing fast when the outlook is grim. “I threw the ball around a little bit”, McCown said. It’s turned him into one of the most important pieces on the Browns defense.
Asked this week what he’d like to see from Jones and Tomlin offered a typically blunt “I want to see him win”. “To be honest with you, I just have to go out there and play”, Jones said, via the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
They might not have the talent of the players they’re filling in for, but Tomlin and his coaching staff refuse to live in their fears (another favorite Tomlinism). “So, I wouldn’t say it’s exclusively the injuries because when we are out there, sometimes, we’re just not making enough plays”. But he is not to be counted out as he has shed his walking boot and was limited at practice on Thursday. In Pittsburgh, which runs a variety of blocking concepts up front, he has been at his best when he’s able to anticipate, stay balanced and take advantage of opportunities on the interior to set up outside runs. The Browns are 29th in the league in scoring (19.7 ppg) and will have a hard time coming back on the road if the Steelers can find a way to grab an early lead. Wednesday, the safety sat out of practice as is his custom on Wednesday since the injury.
Roethlisberger, who missed four weeks with a left knee injury before starting the last two games, is doing everything he can to face the Browns.
Wallace would know. He’s spent the entire season filling in for All-Pro Maurkice Pouncey, who tore up his left ankle in an exhibition and is unlikely to play this season. However, being as he ends the week listed as probable, odds are probably good that he’ll dress and play Sunday against the Browns. “It wouldn’t surprise me if he did (play), but we’ll be prepared either way”. I get the call for, “Hey, why not (Manziel)?’ We’re tasked as coaches to put the roster out there that gives us the best hope to win.”TV: 1 p.m. ET, CBS”.
A struggling Vick took a backseat to Jones for the start in Kansas City October 25, a 23-13 Steelers loss.
His ability to stop, bend and get to the perimeter if need be allowed him to almost pick up a first down on the play below despite a nine-man box against him.
The Steelers host the two-win Browns, who have their fair share of injury issues, Sunday in an AFC North rivalry game before enjoying a bye week.
