Pittsburgh Steelers Team Grades: Steelers’ Defense Ends Giants’ Six-Game Winning Streak
Since the Cleveland game three weeks ago, Pittsburgh has turned to Bell to wear defenses down, allowing the Steelers to not only control the ball and the clock, but it allows them to keep a young, improving defense off the field as much as possible.
NY drove to the Pittsburgh 9 on its next possession midway through the second quarter, but on second-and-4, linebacker Lawrence Timmons made a leaping interception of a Manning pass at the 2 and returned it 58 yards to keep the Giants out of the end zone. The tight ends and wide receivers each caught a combined nine passes.
“It got a little chippy and L. Bell was on the ground”, Foster told USA TODAY Sports. In the air Bell caught six passes for 64 yards. But the Steelers gave up a sack and then an interception after recieving the punt. “We’re going to get plenty of use out of that process this week”.
The Steelers aced a test against the Giants. On 2nd and 6 from the 13, Manning found running back Rashad Jennings for the touchdown to cut the lead to 14-7.
Perhaps with the exception of the Patriots, the rest of those teams, plus the Ravens and Steelers, will be turning to their defenses even more down the stretch.
“Right now we believe we have the players and the scheme to make a run at this thing”, McAdoo said.
It’s also worth noting that the Giants were penalized four times for 24 yards on Sunday.compared to 12 penalties called against the Steelers for 115 yards.
As for the Giants, their chance to get on the board didn’t occur until the third quarter. On third down, the Giants got called for offensive holding in the end zone by Eric Flowers which resulted in a safety to give the Steelers a 2-0 lead.
“Ereck, we have a lot of confidence in Ereck”, he said. “They have an offense that is very capable of scoring points quick”.
The offense was granted tremendous field possession on numerous occasions against the Steelers. The Steelers displayed a fortitude and ability to overcome turnovers, penalties and officiating; the Giants did not.
“I have no idea”, Cruz said after the game when asked about his lack of involvement in the offense. “The guys up front started wearing those guys out”.
What bodes well for majority is how they don’t shy away from the physicality needed when they discover throwing the ball through 30 miles per hour gusts is ludicrous. Ladarius Green started the drive, and he finished it with a 20 yard touchdown reception.
Green got within 15 yards of the sideline before Tomlin and an assistant coach waved him toward to the huddle and James back to the sideline. “We’re just really appreciative”. “You can’t just flip a switch and have things change”. As we sit here today, the Vikings and Packers are quickly slipping from the playoff picture, whereas the Redskins and Steelers have not met their expectations. No, I don’t want us to lose, but at the end of the day, I love Antonio.
“It was a fun game”, Bell said.
We spent a week building up to a game featuring these two quarterbacks who’d been taken in the same 2004 draft, opening a sort of football referendum on the two first-round picks and their matching two-time Super Bowl-winning résumés.
For the biggest hydration displacement moment of a defensive performance that produced more splash plays than a full day at Sea World, Timmons picked off a Manning dart headed for tight end Larry Donnell in the endzone and rumbled 58 yards the other way early in the second quarter.
The history that Beckham is referencing began with last year’s Giants-Panthers game in which McAulay’s crew threw multiple flags on Beckham and then-Panthers cornerback Josh Norman, who were both engaging in extracurricular activities outside of the rules.
