Pixar dives back in the ocean for ‘Finding Dory’
Finding Dory, directed by Andrew Stanton and Angus MacLane, sees Ellen DeGeneres returning to voice the title role of Dory, while Finding Nemo’s Albert Brooks returns to voice Marlin.
Ellen DeGeneres is just about flawless as the often confused but instinctive, Dory, and so is Ed O’Neill as, Hank, the helpful octopus. He said, “I hadn’t watched the film in years”.
Layered with heart and humor, Dory’s emotional journey emphasizes acceptance of people’s differences and disabilities.
The sequel, Finding Dory, also includes attractive underwater scenes, intricate detail and wows viewers with an animated reality that takes the cinemagoer even further into a world to cherish. When Dory sees her mom crying, she goes on a quest for a purple shell (her mom’s favorite), but ends up getting swept away by the current.
“She was apologizing still for her shortcoming that she thought she had for her short-term memory loss and she could easily forget Marlin and Nemo and not find them again”. It uses phrases and moments from the first film to show the origins of Dory and the heartbreak she suffers upon realizing that she both lost her parents years ago and forgot about them as well.
The short film attached to “Finding Dory”, “Piper” follows an adorable sandpiper who is trying to figure out how to get clams while avoiding the big scary waves that keep sweeping in. Reviews for the film have been mostly positive, and moviegoers gave “Finding Dory” a Cinemascore of A, suggesting it will hold onto a healthy chunk of its audience in coming weeks. Deftly navigating the complex inner workings of the MLI, Dory and her friends discover the magic within their flaws, friendships and family. This obviously provides challenges for Dory, as she can’t remember names or faces, how to get home or what dangers lurk in the ocean. (One of the film’s funniest bits exposes those “touching tidepools” as the most terrifying place on earth for an aquatic creature, especially one as misanthropic as Hank.) And at times the story can jump around a little too much, skipping story continuity. Meanwhile, Marlon and Nemo rely on the kindness of two cockney-voiced sea lions (Idris Elba and Dominic West) and a madly eccentric bird named Becky.
