Pixar’s ‘Inside Out’ wins animated feature Oscar
The Disney Pixar film just took home the award for Best Animated Feature at the 2016 Academy Awards held at the Dolby Theatre on Sunday (February 28) in Hollywood. The emotions, voiced by the likes of Amy Poehler and Mindy Kaling, go haywire when the girl’s family moves to San Francisco. This marks Pixar’s first win in the category since courageous and Disney’s continued dominance in the category.
Pixar has dominated the category since 2003, when “Finding Nemo” won, followed by “The Incredibles”, “Ratatouille”, “Wall-E”, “Up”, “Toy Story 3” and “Brave”.
“Inside Out” is Docter’s second Oscar for animated feature.
Inside Out was also up for an award in the Best Original Screenplay category, but it lost to Spotlight.
“Inside Out”, available to stream to Starz subscribers in the US, has been a critical and commercial success, having garnered $777 million at the worldwide box office, not including digital and disc sales.
The film already won every other major award it could win including a Golden Globe and the Annie, which is the top honor in the field of animation. Two GKIDS movies – Brazil’s “Boy and the World” and Studio Ghibli’s “When Marnie Was There” – were also in contention.
In a sense, it was Docter’s third Academy Award; his film “Next Door”, which he produced while studying for his bachelor of fine arts degree at California Institute of the Arts, won him a Student Academy Award. Chris Rock is hosting the ceremony.
