PK Subban donating $10 million to Montreal Children’s Hospital Foundation
If there was any question before, it’s been put to rest.
In return for Subban’s commitment the hospital officially renamed its atrium “Atrium P.K. Subban” to recognize him.
In addition, Subban will also join the Montreal Children’s Hospital Foundation (MCHF) Board of Directors as well as create P.K.’s Helping Hand, a fund dedicated to assisting vulnerable families financially devastated by a child.s illness.
It was announced today that the Montreal Canadiens defensemen will be donating $10 million (over seven years) to the Montreal Children’s Hospital Foundation.
The hospital is calling Subban’s pledge “the biggest philanthropic commitment by a sports figure in Canadian history”, according to CBC.
Subban is frequently working with charities to benefit children, notably spending lots of time with children’s charities, including his Hyundai’s Hockey Helpers, which helps children across Canada afford hockey equipment. From surprising a bunch of children by disguising himself as a security guard to stopping in a local Montreal neighborhood and playing a street hockey game, the 2013 Norris Trophy victor is often around and available for the citizens of the city.
Last summer Subban signed an eight-year $72 million contract with the Canadiens.
Elise Beliveau, wife of Canadiens legend Jean Beliveau was in attendance for the announcement.
Martine Alfonso, associate executive director of the hospital said in a press release (H/T to Sportsnet), that Subban makes for an outstanding role model for patients. “Montrealers have taken me into their hearts”.
It’s a significant donation that effect the lives of thousands of children for years to come.
