Plane Collision at Detroit Airport: Wing, Tail Clip on Taxiway, No Injuries
– There was a little accident at Detroit Metro Airport Wednesday morning, confirms the airport’s spokesperson Michael Conway.
Detroit resident Carlos Salinas, who was passenger on a plane at the airport, tweeted a photo he took out his window showing the damage that was done to the Southwest jet’s tail.
All of the passengers were evacuated safely, he added. One plane flew from San Diego to Portland, Oregon, and the other from Portland to John Wayne Airport in Orange County, California.
Both airlines report no injuries resulting from the incident.
6ABC first reported on the Frontier Airlines flight that was heading to Tampa Bay, Florida, which kept about 200 frustrated flyers stuck on the plane after it experienced technical issues. “I was like ‘oh my God, what is that?'” said Tania, one passenger on the American Airlines flight. Passengers are being put on other flights.
Officials said the planes immediately returned to their gates for inspection, but Sharpe told NBC, “From 6:45 until 7:53… we had been sitting stationary”.
The Federal Aviation Authority says it will investigate the incident. “The Southwest Team accommodated customers on alternate flights, and we appreciate the patience of our customers”.
