Plane in deadly Mumbai crash was not certified as airworthy
A small private plane crashed Thursday in a busy area of Mumbai, India’s financial and entertainment capital, killing five people including one person on the ground, police said.
However it was Mariya who exhibited exemplary dedication to profession and presence of mind to steer the plane out of dense residential areas of Ghatkopar before it crashed near the construction site, thus saving many more lives.
All four have been killed in the crash and their bodies have been taken to Rajawadi Hospital A DGCA official said the aircraft belonged to UY Aviation Pvt Ltd, which had bought it from the Uttar Pradesh government.
Local residents Friday guided a two-member AAIB team to the two buildings.
Among all these videos, there is a clip of one of the crash victims engulfed in fire, which sends a chill down the spine. The CCTV appears to be installed in a nearby building catching the final moments when the aircraft crashed. “They are likely to be completed by early next week”, said a senior DGCA official.
Suresh Prabhu who is the Union Minister of Civil Aviation expressed the profound shock on the plane crash incident.
“The Cockpit Voice Recorder has been retrieved and will be brought to Delhi, where it will be played”. The investigation team has already recovered the black box from the crash site, and a detailed report can be expected soon.
The police and other agencies, meanwhile, struggled to collect evidence from the spot as it rained incessantly. Nobody dared going towards the site as there were repeated explosions.
The 22-year-old plane was being maintained by the Indamer Maintenance Repair and Overhaul (MRO) for the last two years at the Juhu airport in Mumbai.
Accusing the aviation company which owned the plane, Maria’s husband P Kuthariya said his wife had informed him bad weather had grounded the plane. However, flights deviate towards the right to land at Juhu aerodrome. This is why we could not conduct the test flight on Monday.
The plane, which crashed in the Jagruti Nagar locality of the crowded Ghatkopar shortly after 1 pm, was a King Air C90 12-seater aircraft.
