Planes crash in mid-air in South Carolina | KRQE News 13
Multiple sources say an F-16 and a small plane were involved in the crash and Berkeley County Fire has confirmed the crash involved an F-16 and a Cessna.
Officials say the pilot is being transported to a hospital via helicopter.
Berkeley County, South Carolina, spokesman Michael Mule said crews were responding to at least one downed aircraft in Lewisfield Plantation in Moncks Corner, about 30 miles north of Charleston. The fire department said toxic fumes were coming from the fighter, which landed about 100 feet into a rice field near the historic Lewisfield plantation home. Authorities were also looking in nearby water for the pilot of the Cessna, the station reported.
The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating.
