Planned Parenthood clinic evacuated; 7 treated
Sarasota School of the Arts and Sciences is on lockdown as a precaution.
The clinic provides family planning services, preventive health care, testing for sexually transmitted diseases, and abortions.
Seven Planned Parenthood staffers in Florida were sent to hospital Monday after experiencing breathing problems caused by what investigators determined to be cleaning chemicals.
Planned Parenthood is a national target because of its role as the largest USA abortion provider.
Seven people at Sarasota’s Planned Parenthood building were taken to a hospital and 34 others evacuated, some suffering shortness of breath, possibly due to chemical fumes. Two hazardous materials crews came in to deal with the situation. The videos reportedly showed officials from the organization brokering deals to sell fetal tissue. In a prepared statement, a Planned Parenthood spokeswoman said safety of patients and staff is the organization’s top priority. Planned Parenthood has denied the allegations.
Almost three dozen other people in the building were evacuated and a local school was placed on lockdown. According to the Fire Department, everyone will be decontaminated on scene. At the moment, there is no criminal investigation, Judge said.
Officials do not know what the substance is that made people ill.
