Planned Parenthood Clinic in Louisville Allegedly “Illegally Performed Abortions”
In the resolution, Keiser referenced two recent attacks on Planned Parenthood: the arson at a Pullman Planned Parenthood clinic in September and the deadly shooting in Colorado Springs in November.
In the organization’s response to the state, Planned Parenthood said it had begun “providing services only after receiving assurance from [the office of the acting inspector general], in emails dated December 1 and December 7 that it would be appropriate while [the organization] awaited survey”. “It is not debatable, however, that tax dollars are being wasted by funding Planned Parenthood which offers the same services New Yorkers can now receive from a doctor through the Affordable Care Act”.
Earlier on Thursday, a spokeswoman for Planned Parenthood of IN and Kentucky (or PPINK) issued a statement that PPINK had “applied for an abortion facility license and commenced services under the guidance of the Office of the Inspector General, the state office that is responsible for licensing health facilities”.
“We agree. Live Action News – a disingenuous site that peddles lies about abortion & shames women – is inappropriate for in-flight viewing”, Planned Parenthood claimed on Twitter Wednesday.
Planned Parenthood says abortions make up just three percent of its services nationally and that it provides life-saving services, like breast and cervical cancer screenings and is often the only place its low income clients get medical care. Chad Barefoot of Wake County, said the Texas Planned Parenthood videos inspired him to introduce the measure. Anderson announced last week that a grand jury has indicted two anti-abortion activists who made undercover videos alleging Planned Parenthood illegally sold fetal tissue to researchers for a profit, and said the abortion provider committed no wrong. Prior to opening the clinic on Seventh Street, Kentucky “had only one abortion provider, a private clinic in Louisville that also operates a part-time clinic in Lexington”.
So, lawmakers and a governor who want to prevent abortion in a state with a high poverty rate and a teen pregnancy rate above that of the nation would reasonably promote access to family planning information and birth control.
“I think they’re part of the solution”, Selznick said. Merritt, a colleague of Daleiden at the Centre for Medical Progress, was also indicted. Moreover, the state should cease trying to boot the organization from Medicaid funding.
Another bit of unproductive legislation is Senate Bill 4, the so-called informed consent bill. “That saddens me”, she said.
There is one other facility in Louisville, EMW that does perform abortions.
“Any time we have safe, legal health care services for women so desperately needed in this state, it’s a step forward for women in Kentucky”, she said.
On its website, the facility advertises in-clinic abortions. Instead, the bill’s co-sponsors, Democratic Rep. Bill Patmon and Republican Rep. Margaret Conditt, say the money should be allocated towards community health centers and other agencies.
“These perpetrators must be held accountable for the ways in which they committed fraud and put our members’ safety at risk”, said Vicki Saporta, the federation’s president and CEO.
