Planned Parenthood Closer to Losing Federal Money
President Donald Trump tried to make a deal this week, and it was really simple.
While she said they are not now providing abortions at the New Orleans location or anywhere in Louisiana, the proposed legislation would bar Planned Parenthood as a whole from being reimbursed through Medicaid for health services because the organization does have abortion services across the country and that funding loss would trickle down to Louisiana. Meanwhile, anti-abortion groups are raising concerns that the bill could potentially allow people to use refundable tax credits to pay for abortion.
To be clear, no federal funding goes towards abortion in the first place.
“We’re talking nationally about excluding abortion providers from participating in family planning programs that are created to help low-income women”, she said. When pollsters asked if voters knew that none of the federal funding went to abortion services, support for funding Planned Parenthood jumped to 80 percent.
Outside electioneering activities, like mailings, broadcast ads and robocalls, from anti-abortion organizations totaled about $159,700 between January 2010 and December 2016 – all to support Republicans and oppose Democrats seeking legislative and statewide offices. Money saved in one area, can be used in another.
The effort to cut public funds for Planned Parenthood has grown through years marked by the organization’s continued reception of large sums of government money, by its performance of almost one-third of the abortions in the United States while non-abortion services declined, and by a variety of scandals. However, he takes up the false claims that the abortion business provides mammograms and maternity care and, therefore, should continue to be funded by the federal government.
A PPLM spokeswoman said the five MA clinics provide about $2 million in services to Medicaid patients that would be in jeopardy should Congress block Medicaid reimbursements for Planned Parenthood through the GOP health reform bill now being debated. Charles Schumer, a Democrat from NY and a steady ally of abortion, repeated the false claim that PP provides mammograms.
Another Texas law, later found unconstitutional by the Supreme Court, shut down many abortion clinics across the state.
Anti-abortion activists want the federal government to cut off all federal funding to Planned Parenthood.

It comes as no surprise that Ms. Richards would absolutely shut down an offer by Mr. Trump to stop performing abortions.
PP receives over $500 million from tax funds and performs over 300,000 abortions per year. That’s Planned Parenthood. This measure shuts down funding for the organization just because it uses other funds to cover those procedures. But the fact that the idea was broached at all is significant as the latest sign that Republicans recognize the problems – and likely political repercussions – of cutting off funds to an organization that is held in high regard by the American public for providing critical health-care services. It’s a terrifying prospect, but the potential impact is probably best understood by those in the field – the abortion providers themselves.

It’s time to federally defund.
