Planned Parenthood Endorses Hillary Clinton for President
In a statement yesterday, the abortion giant announced that it is kicking off the presidential primary by backing the Democratic hopeful, noting that Clinton will stand by Planned Parenthood- no matter what.
Planned Parenthood has endured its own controversies this election cycle after an anti-abortion group released videos over the summer accusing Planned Parenthood of selling aborted fetuses for profit.
“There has never been a more important election when it comes to women’s health and reproductive rights – and Planned Parenthood’s patients, providers, and advocates across the country are a crucial line of defense against the unsafe agenda being advanced by every Republican candidate for president”, she said in a statement.
Planned Parenthood is facing a wave of backlash from its own supporters as a result of its endorsement of Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton.
Clinton, who is pro-choice, has been a staunch supporter of Planned Parenthood and women’s health initiatives throughout her campaign.
Hillary Clinton has taken every opportunity to speak out in support of Planned Parenthood, including dozens of shout-outs on the campaign trail.
The group will make the endorsement official at what they are billing as their election kickoff event in Manchester, New Hampshire on Sunday.
“We’re proud to endorse Hillary Clinton for President of the United States. In fact, no other 2016 candidate has shown such strong, lifelong commitment to the issues Planned Parenthood Action Fund cares about”.
Clinton is being challenged for her party’s nomination by independent Senator Bernie Sanders and former Maryland governor Martin O’Malley. President Obama is expected to veto the legislation. But PPFA’s public image took a enormous hit for many other reasons, such as the following from Dr. Deborah Nucatola, senior director for medical services for the Planned Parenthood Federation of America.
This is the second national women’s health group to back Clinton.
The endorsement in a presidential primary is the first for Planned Parenthood in its 100-year existence, and reveals that the abortion giant understands that its future is at stake in 2016.
