Planned Parenthood, Florida reach agreement over abortions
None of Planned Parenthood’s clinics in the South Atlantic region – which includes the Carolinas, West Virginia and much of Virginia – participates in fetal tissue collection, according to its regional office in Raleigh, North Carolina.
Others, though, argue the recent controversy over Planned Parenthood should be enough to shut it down.
Planned Parenthood’s reputation has recently taken a hit thanks to the release of several inflammatory videos that suggest the group is improperly profiting off the sale of aborted fetal tissue.
A conservative activist says new steps need to be taken to address Planned Parenthood, beginning with truth about research.
“What would a shutdown mean for Ohio?” the ad asks, after which a veteran, senior citizen and mother express concern about how a variety of government benefit programs would be affected.
Billionaire businessman Donald Trump is the only Republican candidate who has come to the organization’s defense, stressing the importance of its other women’s health services.
The request comes after state health officials recently inspected 16 Planned Parenthood facilities and said three were performing second-trimester abortions when they licensed to perform first-trimester abortions.
Americans broadly support providing federal funding for free women’s health exams, screenings and contraception services, a Reuters/Ipsos poll has found, suggesting risks for Republicans criticizing Planned Parenthood as part of the 2016 campaigns.
“Planned Parenthood killed more than 325,000 babies through abortion last year, more than any organization in the U.S.”, the president of Broward Right to Life, John Aman, says.
The agency said it was taking “immediate actions” against the first three facilities, ordering them to cease providing second trimester abortions, and saying it was considering “administrative sanctions”.
Further, the organization frequently reports information about its abortions to the state, and it has had no pushback on similar procedures since an AHCA rule defining the first and second trimester was passed in 2006. And while the Obama administration is using its bully pulpit to fight for the abortion lobby, it can’t fully halt incremental reform such as this.
