Planned Parenthood sues Governor’s office over medicaid funding
Sara Rosenbaum, a health law expert at George Washington University, said Planned Parenthood patients can sue in court and can seek a judicial order to block the states from the money cutoff.
Jindal, a Republican presidential candidate, announced plans this month to cut off the payments, citing hidden-camera videos that accuse the organization of profiting from fetal tissue sales.
Immediately following the rally, participants will lobby their Members of Congress to pass a budget that does not fund Planned Parenthood.
While the notice gave no reason for the termination, the complaint notes that Jindal referred in a press release to heavily edited and misleading videos released by an anti-choice front group with regard to Planned Parenthood’s abortion practice in other states. Planned Parenthood treats innocent preborn human persons as cattle at a meat market, butchering our future for profit today. “It has become clear that this is not an organization that is worthy of receiving public assistance from the state“, he added.
U.S. health officials also have warned Louisiana that terminating the Medicaid contracts may illegally restrict beneficiary access to services.
Without a court injunction, more than 5,200 Planned Parenthood patients who rely on Medicaid for health care would have to find care elsewhere, the organization says. Federal courts have overturned previous attempts in Arizona and Indiana to disqualify Planned Parenthood from receiving Medicaid reimbursements.
“Alabama is very pro-life, and we don’t want abortion to be legal”, said organizer Cindy Adams.
A state Senate committee on Planned Parenthood continues its hearings this afternoon.
Covenant Christian Church of Alba joined hundreds of other churches across the United States August. 22 in a series of demonstrations nationally in response to recently-released videos that prompted investigations of the largest provider of abortions in the United States.
A spokesperson for Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains, based in Denver, was not immediately able to respond to Tuesday’s developments. He also noted that Baton Rouge and New Orleans have among the highest HIV infection rates in the country.
Despite the federal warning, Jindal spokesman Mike Reed called the lawsuit “without merit”. Riordan emphasized that Planned Parenthood offers a variety of health care services to low-income patrons.
DHH officials have said they are not violating the law.
Later in the clip, Dyer said that Planned Parenthood has “volume” and is a “volume institution”. Patients “have a legally enforceable right” to choose their medical provider, she said.
