Playoff-bound Chiefs stick to plan, turn around season
This big hole in the middle of defensive line can be attributed to the declining play of Vince Wilfork, throughout the course of this season Wilfork has lost some of his quickness and strength which has resulted in him not being able to get to the running back as fast as he once did and not having the strength to take on double teams anymore.
Nelson said driving 26 hours in the span of two days is a small price to pay to see the Chiefs in the playoffs. Can they do it again?
The oddsmakers certainly think so, making Kansas City (3 points), Pittsburgh (2 1-2), and Seattle (5 1-2) favorites on the road in the opening round of the postseason.
Saturday will mark the second meeting between the Chiefs and the Texans, who met in a Week 1 game the Chiefs won, 27-20.
That game was the loudest I ever heard Arrowhead roar. I think the fans have waited long enough. The merry-go-round has come full circle, with Brian Hoyer back in control of the huddle as Houston seeks to improve to 3-0 in the wild-card round. “They don’t get caught up in the accolades; they just go out and play”. Montana set the tone after the Oilers jumped out to an early lead. The Chiefs have looked like a team very much on the rise these past few months, but there are some areas to be concerned about (the field goal unit and the late game panicking to name a few). They’re entering the playoffs with a 10-game winning streak! Both of those teams are in the playoffs.
“First of all they have a lot of good players and they have a really good coaching staff. That combination is tough”, Texans coach Bill O’Brien said. One team started the year 2-5. Yet the same can be said for the Chiefs in that department. According to OddsShark, Kansas City is the sixth most likely team to win Super Bowl 50.
There is something to be said for that.
One team started the year 1-5. In 1970, the Cincinnati Bengals did the same thing but that was in a 14 game schedule not in today’s National Football League marathon of games.
The Chiefs defeated the Oakland Raiders on Sunday and finished 11-5 for the second time under head coach Andy Reid.
Even during the doldrums, though, nobody in the Kansas City locker room seemed to lose hope. Instead, it was back to work, back to the basics and a refusal for anyone to point a finger at anyone else.
Playoff time announced: Chiefs at Texans on SATURDAY at 3:35 pm CT on ABC/ESPN. The Chiefs weren’t far off.
The Chiefs also won the final five games of the regular season without Pro Bowl linebacker Justin Houston, who is nursing a hyperextended knee.
And that’s exactly what I expect them to do against the Texans.
