PlayStation 4 cements its stranglehold on the console market
“Xbox One continued to see strong momentum in September”, Microsoft stated, crediting Forza 6 and a strong showing by EA Sports Federation Internationale de Football Association ’16 for a “solid year-over-year growth” in sales of the console.
Since the inception of the Playstation Plus monthly service, subscribers have helped themselves to over two hundred free games in Sony’s instant collection.
In April, Xbox One hit the top sales spot away from Sony, though since then, the PS4 has claimed the top-spot time and time again.
Compared to this time a year ago though overall industry sales were down 9 per cent, with hardware sales down a massive 27 per cent. Game sales were down 3 per cent and only accessories (including toys-to-life) saw an increase.
Sony released a 1TB PS4 earlier this year. It’s also thought many people may now be waiting for the pre-Christmas sales before they buy expensive new hardware.
With an exciting upcoming lineup of games like Call of Duty: Black Ops 3, Fallout 4, and console exclusives like Street Fighter 5, the upcoming price cut will be music to the ears of European PlayStation fans.
Was September just a blip?
The top selling game in September was NBA 2K16, followed by Madden NFL 16, MGS5, FIFA 16 and Destiny: The Taken King.
National Basketball Association 2K16 has dethroned previous month’s king, Madden NFL 16, and now sits as the best-selling console title.
In addition to this, the U.S. software charts for September were also released.
Despite Xbox getting a new Halo and Tomb Raider, the PS4 is likely to do just fine and a price cut will only make that more likely.
