PlayStation 4 Gets a Keyboard and Mouse
Assuming that the experience of using the Tactical Assault Commander 4 lives up to the concept behind it, then it might well fill a gap in the console accessory market for Sony’s systems.
The keyboard sees the PlayStation buttons located in positions natural for a PC player in that genre. Certainly, there isn’t WASD on the keyboard, though there are keys that make up for it somewhat.
The partial keyboard is joined by a traditional-looking optical mouse, which includes the usual buttons, scroll-wheel, and adjustable tracking resolution of any gaming mouse. On the console it’s always been about the gamepad, where the PC is reliant on the somewhat antiquated, but oh-so-versatile mouse and keyboard combo. Still, for whatever reasons, many gamers favour these workplace implements as their controllers of choice – which is one of the many reasons those same people find making the jump to console gaming daunting. There’s also a series of lights on the pad that indicate the programming of the pad. It has a touchpad (like the Dualshock 4), programmable buttons, LED backlighting, and a physical switch to change between three different saved profiles. We can only hope that in the four years since the release of the last model, things have gotten better.
Hori is reportedly set to release the new controller, Tactical Assault Commander 4, or TAC 4, this fall, as it was recently spotted in an Amazon listing. Amazon UK announced an earlier rollout on October. 9.
