PlayStation 4’s PS2 emulation may not be the backwards compatibility we’ve
‘Rez Infinite’ is another confirmed PlayStation VR experience that builds off a classic cult title (though it will not be exclusive to VR). Sony representatives have constantly state the PlayStation 4 will not be receiving PlayStation 3 backwards compatibility. For some critics, the Hololens looks more impressive than most VR technology being developed when it was first demonstrated. While the list definitely caters to fans by introducing some favorites such as Dark Cloud, some might argue that the entire collection of PS2-era Grand Theft Auto games takes the cake as the best additions. The sad thing is that Sony used to be great at things like this, after all the PS2 supported PSone games back in the day.
In just a few years, we’ve gone from pure tech demos with no gameplay value to something like EVE: Valkyrie, the first VR game I’ve ever tried that actually feels like a title that people would go out and pay money for.
We could be looking at a palm-sized streaming device as we see a surge in downloadable titles and contents these days, or future gamers could be making use of DualShock 4 or even a more advanced controller device that connects with a Sony TV.
Many have also been praying for Sony to finally release a new Syphon Filter game to be made by Sony Bend Studio.
The listing reads, “We have an exciting opportunity at Sony Computer Entertainment of America (PlayStation)”. The PS4 being $100 cheaper than the Xbox One led to it outselling its competition nearly 2:1; maybe they would adapt the same strategy by announcing a low price for the PlayStation VR.
Sony will have the games available to play at its PlayStation Experience in San Francisco this weekend, as well.
In a nutshell, the most disappointing aspect of Sony’s demonstration is not that they’re moving forward- but that they can’t seem to solve problems that other VR developers are running into (Oculus, HTC Valve) and can’t seem to make themselves get past.
There was news for competitive Call of Duty players with the reveal of the new Call of Duty World League. Sony also announced “Bastion“, “The Bit”.
Another series that tends to be quite competitive is Street Fighter. All these PS2 games have been revamped to take advantage of the new PS4 ecosystem with Trophy support. It is expected to release for the PS4 and PS Vita and has a March 2016 release window.
There are also hearsays pointing to the console being launched together with virtual reality glasses from the company dubbed as “Project Morpheus”.
