PlayStation 4 update 4.0 will bring long-awaited folders, UI refresh
Looks like that is going to be the case for certain fans tomorrow. Expect Sony to push the update for most users sooner rather than later. With the name of the event dubbed as the “PlayStation Meeting”, it further strengthens rumors that it is indeed for Sony’s PlayStation NEO.
We’ve made a lot of adjustments and improvements to PS4’s main UI.
Created to offer a “more refined and easy to use” interface, changes include a new What’s New menu, new system backgrounds, updated pop-ups and new system icons. According to the company this update will make sure the console has a “more refined and easy to use” UI.
Firstly pressing and holding the PS button on the DualShock 4 controller will bring up a revamped Quick Menu, that only takes up a fraction of the screen. One of the big changes in it is that the menu only covers a portion of the screen now which means that we don’t need to leave the gameplay entirely. And if there are items you don’t use, you can remove them, as the Quick Menu is customizable with Shingen.
The Quick Menu and Share Menu will see an impressive overhaul.
The Share Menu, like the Quick Menu, will only take up a portion of your screen.
In the Share Menu, the most notable change is that of the video clips to post on Twitter that can now have a duration of 140 seconds versus 10 seconds allowed before.
One of the requests we get the most is for more options on the Ps4 to organize the content.
Folders will allow PS4 users to sort their content however they so choose. There’s also a new design being rolled out across the UI to give menus and notifications a more modern appearance. This will really help clean up your library and will make sure I never have to stare at the beta for Destiny that has been sitting there for years or that demo that I downloaded and ended up not liking.
One of the biggest issues with PlayStation Trophies is that you’re unable to view your Trophies offline. There’s also a button that lets you reveal the content of a Hidden Trophy. So while you check out your profile and see if others are as good as you, you can then brush up on what trophies you managed to acquire, even if you aren’t online. Lastly, the icons showing a Trophy’s rarity have been changed. The icon has been changed to a pyramid with the ultra-rare Trophies at the top.
User Profile: Relevant info for a player is now easier to find. You’ll also be able to compare trophy progress with friends. Once update 4.00 releases in the “coming weeks” we will know more about those extra features, but for now, this is what we can look forward to.
