PlayStation VR will be priced like a new console
Factoring in the cost of the PS4 itself, it would cost a little below $1,000 to enjoy virtual reality games on Sony’s platform.
Many see virtual reality as the next big step in the evolution of video games but it seems that the price of the coming devices might be an initial problem for many players as Sony offers more hints about the launch of its own Project Morpheus for the PlayStation 4. He didn’t exactly revel any specific number, but said that the PlayStation VR headset will come at the price similar to new gaming platform. Furthermore, Yoshida also explained that amateurly skilled developers with less budget can also easily create games via PS VR but only if they are innovative enough.
One of the examples is a soccer game called Headmaster. “You can create totally incredible experiences with very very limited resources if you have the right idea”, Yoshida said.
Speaking to Bloomberg, House didn’t specify the exact price of the new head-mounted virtual reality system, but did say that it will be a similar price to a new games console when it launches next year. On the other hand, Samsung is now in the process to release “Samsung Gear VR”. The PlayStation is going to be released sometimes next year.
The forecast is on a par with the current focal point for VR discussion and development, the US$350 (RM1,493) Oculus Rift DK 2, while OSVR’s three versions will go for US$199 (RM849) and US$299 (RM1,275), plus extras, once pre-orders become available in October. The name was announced during Sony Tokyo game show press conference by Sony computer Entertainment Japan president Atsushi Morita.
