Plea deal sought in Skelos’ trial
Former NY state Senate Majority Leader Dean Skelos and his son are set to face trial on Monday on charges the politician pressured companies doing business with the state to give his son hundreds of thousands of dollars in jobs and commissions.
Dean Skelos or his son, Adam, sought to discuss a plea deal to resolve part or all of an eight-count indictment that includes bribery and extortion charges. Skelos when he was initially charged said he would “be found not only not guilty, but innocent”.
The jury selection has already been scheduled in while the first day in court has not yet finished people are already saying that this particular trial is among the highest profile one in regards of political corruption.
He is also accused of pushing legislation in Albany and a $12 million storm water contract in Nassau County to help Adam succeed at AbTech.
The crowded courtroom included Dean Skelos’ wife, Gail. But it hasn’t been easy to find a potential juror who has not heard about the case. Adam Skelos’ child has autism, according to court filings. “Law & Order” and most of the time, because they hire experienced lawyers, they get away with it”.
