PM arrives in Karachi to chair law and order meeting
Pakistan has formally invited External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj to attend the “Heart of Asia” Conference to be held in Islamabad on December 8.
“Issues of regional and national security were discussed during the meeting”, according to an official statement.
The development comes days after Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi held a short informal meeting on the sidelines of a global climate change summit in Paris. This will be the first significant engagement between the 2 countries since the Modi-Nawaz meeting in Ufa in July this year.
The participating countries are Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, China, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, the Russian Federation, Saudi Arabia, Tajikistan, Turkey, Turkmenistan, United Arab Emirates and Uzbekistan.
The Prime Minister extended felicitations to the Chief of the Air Staff for successful completion of the inter-squadron competition, in which the PAF fighter squadrons demonstrated their excellence in weapon delivery standards.
Earlier, National Security Advisor Janjua called on Prime Minister Sharif at his house and briefed him about the preparations for the conference.
Earlier on arrival in Karachi, he was received by Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah and other senior officials at the airport.
Sources said that with Nisar’s support, Premier Nawaz would remove the gridlock between the military and the Sindh government over Rangers’ special powers.
