PM greets Odisha CM on birthday
Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s birthday celebration was marred when 11 youths were injured when a few gas balloons burst on them near his house here on Friday. The group of students belonging to the student wing of the Biju Janta Dal were walking in a procession to wish Naveen Patnaik with flowers and helium gas-filled balloons and also celebrate their success in the recently-concluded college elections.
Patnaik, state Law Minister Arun Sahoo, Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation mayor Anant Narayan Jena and several BJD leaders rushed to the hospital. None of them, however, was injured in their eyes. In order to facilitate the ministers and secretaries to undertake district visits, Patnaik said there would be no meeting in the state secretariat during first weeks of every month.
The mishap took place when a large number of students among others were proceeding to Naveen Niwas to wish the chief minister and a huge bunch of gas balloon carried during the procession exploded near Airport Square, Commissioner of Police R P Sharma told reporters.
All the injured were admitted to the Capital Hospital, where hospital superintendent Binod Mishra said they sustained burn injuries on their foreheads and hands but their condition was stable.
Sources said most of the injured girls are from Ramadevi Women University here.
