PM likely to inaugurate KKH realignment project at Attabad
The prime minister said that the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor project would greately benefit all regions of the country including Gilgit-Baltistan.
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Monday inaugurated the upgraded part of Karakoram Highway at Attabad, ARY News reported. The chief minister briefed the prime minister about progress of other developmental projects in the area and performance of GB government.
“This trend is encouraging, as it will encourage the foreign tourists to visit the attractive land of Pakistan”.
The tunnels are part of the 24-km portion of the Karakoram Highway linking Pakistan and China, which landslides damaged in 2010 and formed a lake at Attabad by blocking river flow. The tunnels are part of a 24 kilometre realignment project which has been completed in collaboration with China in over three years.
He said the project named as “Re-Alignment of Karakorum Highway at Attabad Barrier Lake”, would restore the road link of Gojal Valley with rest of Gilgit Baltistan.
24 km long Attabad Karakorum Highway Realignment project costing $275 million has been completed recently.
Speaking to lawmakers from Gilgit Baltistan, the prime minister emphasised that each rupee should be spent with honesty.
