PM Modi meets Obama in Vientiane
Continuing his tirade against Pakistan, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday again said there was one country in India’s neighbourhood whose competitive advantage rests exclusively in producing and exporting terrorism. He added that it was crucial for countries to adopt an “isolate and sanction” attitude against Islamabad.
In a veiled attack on Islamabad at G20 summit in China’s Hangzhou on Monday, the Indian prime minister declared Pakistan the “one single nation” responsible for fomenting terror in the region.
The India-Asean summit will be attended by the leaders of 10 southeast Asian nations – Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Brunei, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Vietnam and Thailand. Our partnership with ASEAN seeks to craft a response through coordination, cooperation at multiple levels, ” Modi said.
He also said while India and Pakistan must certainly discuss the entire range of issues, they must keep their focus on economy which he described as a “low-hanging fruit”.
Appreciating Prime Minister’s initiatives in economic reforms, President Obama said that passage of GST will unleash significant economic activity.
Prime Minister Modi said that he was looking forward to receiving Suu Kyi in Goa for the BRICS-BIMSTEC Outreach Summit, while asserting that cooperation in disaster management would be one of the important elements of the Summit given that several countries in South Asiacontinue to face natural disasters.
He said enhancing connectivity was central to India’s partnership with Asean.
The meeting was “very warm and friendly”, sources said.
Hua said the two leaders agreed to “enhance strategic communication, foster synergies between the development strategies of the two countries, expand exchanges and cooperation in various fields so as to further China-India strategic cooperative partnership”.
“This may also be due to India’s rapidly increasing relations with the United States and Japan”.
Modi had met Chinese President Xi Jinping in his first engagement at 9.30 a.m.
Last week, Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry accused India of “desperately making all efforts to divert global community’s attention from the atrocities which are being perpetrated by the Indian forces.on the helpless and innocent Kashmiris”.
The two leaders reviewed progress of negotiations to improve India-South Korea comprehensive economic partnership agreement and also 10 billion USA dollar package announced a year ago for infrastructure development in India.
