PM Modi presents certificates to innovative Army officers
The certificates were presented to the officers for unique innovations done by these officers, in areas such as communications, counter-terror operations, simulation etc. Indian Army continues to defend our borders across some of the most challenging terrains in the world. The Indian Army day is celebrated every year on January 15.
The day is of great significance and is observed to commemorate the appointment of Lt Gen (later Field Marshal) K.M. Cariappa as the first Indian Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army in 1949.
The priority for the army was new artillery guns, upgrading of mechanised forces, enhancement of army aviation capabilities, he said, noting that better arms needed to be provided to the soldiers. It is celebrated in the form of parades and other military shows in the national capital as well as all headquarters.
Bravery awards including Unit credentials and Sena Medals are distributed on the occasion of Army Day.
Congress President Sonia Gandhi has extended her salutations to the valiant soldiers of the country on the occasion of Army Day. “Saluting the indomitable valour, determination and dedication of our Army on Army Day”, the Prime Minister said in his message. Earlier in the three service chiefs paid homage to martyrs at the Amar Jawan Jyoti.
