PM Modi unveils plaque for Foundation Stone of Delhi-Meerut Expressway
Attacking the Congress over disruptions and protests which have washed off two back-to-back Parliament sessions, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday asked the opposition party to vow to let the House function in the new year. “Those who have enjoyed power for 50-60 years, they have no right to destroy Parliament, to stop functioning of Parliament”, Modi said at a public meeting in Noida after launching the Delhi-Meerut Expressway. We may not be allowed to speak in Lok Sabha but I want to say this in a Jan Sabha, that we have been sent to Parliament to debate and discuss and to decide after discussion.
Noting the people’s aspirations for development, the Prime Minister said good roads were one of the first pre-requisites for development.
We should give priority to the work that we are expected to do, the PM said adding that the New years resolution should be to the Parliament to work smoothly. “It is specially their responsibility to ensure that country’s development is not stopped because of their political reasons”.

Modi also requested Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav to abolish interviews in Group III and Group IV government jobs so that youths can get jobs on the basis of merit.
Terming the expressway project as “highway to development”, the Prime Minister said that it will lead to promotion of weekend tourism in a number of areas adjoining the expressway and development of a number of satellite towns as well.
He said, “While in Opposition, BJP opposed GST, Modi spearheaded the charge, we are the authors of GST”. In his speech, Modi also talked about the Golden Quadrilateral project of the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government, and the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana.
Uttar Pradesh Governor Ram Naik, Union Minister of Road Transport & Highways Nitin Gadkari and other senior functionaries will be present on the occasion.
