PM Narendra Modi to make first public address since Uri attack
The party said that it understands the sentiments in the country but as far as the stand of the National Council over the issue is concerned, it will be deliberated at an appropriate stage.
Briefing the reporters about the meeting Bharatiya Janata Party General Secretary Ram Madhav said, “You will naturally have one major issue in your minds about the situation in the country and about neighbourhood etc”.
“Apko bayan chahiye ya action?”
Soon after the Uri attack, Madhav had spoken about India adopting the policy of “for one tooth, complete jaw”, asserting that the days of strategic restraint are over. If they express a desire to join NDA or support or work along with BJP, we will take a decision.
UNDER the heavy shadow of the Uri terror attack and daunting task ahead of UP polls next year, the top brass of the BJP went into a huddle on the inaugural day of the three-day national council meeting that began here. We get inputs from people.
Asked later why his statements today appeared toned down, Madhav said: “Where is the toning down? A lot of news is floating around”.
The party itself sought to focus on the pro-poor agenda during the deliberations with BJP President Amit Shah asking its state governments to execute the schemes aimed at the welfare of the poor in the centenary birth anniversary year of its ideologue Deen Dayal Upadhyay. Shah had constituted a committee on Gareeb Kalyan under the leadership of Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan.
Amidst mounting pressure from the cadre to take a tough line against Pakistan in the aftermath of Uri, BJP President Amit Shah has told party leaders that it was time for unwavering commitment to the party’s core ideology which had brought it to power. Finally, all eyes are on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who will address a public meeting of the party faithful at Kozhikode beach on Saturday.
The party is said to be seriously considering roping in the Kerala Congress (M), a major regional party that enjoys the support of the influential Roman Catholic Church, into the NDA despite the fact that its supremo, former Minister KM Mani, is presently bearing a tarnished image due to the infamous bar bribery scandal in which he is allegedly involved.
Giving details of the party conclave, he said the national council dedicated to the ideas of integral humanism and antyodaya of Upadhyay, the ideological mentor of the Parivar, had set a new trend that a party meeting can be held for constructive thinking and not just for election.
