PM talks to Gen Raheel on phone
Addressing the United Nations General Assembly on Wednesday Nawaz Sharif said he, on behalf of the Kashmiris and the Pakistani nation, would demand an independent inquiry into the killing of the Kashmiris by the Indian forces.
Sharif’s speech at the United Nations on Wednesday is likely to focus on the Kashmir issue and Pakistan-India relations, the report said.
“Recent violent clashes and attacks caused some casualties and strains in India-Pakistan relations”, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lu Kang told media briefing here.
He said two groups of militants had infiltrated into the Indian-controlled portion of Kashmir from the Pakistani-held part near Uri region and Nowgam sector.
He thanked China for expressing concern regarding Indian atrocities in occupied Kashmir. Ban’s remarks came as Sharif handed over to him a dossier containing evidence of alleged human rights violations by Indian forces in Kashmir.
He has said he will highlight the Kashmir issue in his address at the UN General Assembly on Wednesday. “Tens of thousands of our citizens and thousands of our security personnel have been killed or injured in terrorist attacks”, Sharif said.
Retorting to Sharif’s claim that India has been putting unacceptable conditions to Pakistan offer for bilateral dialogue, Swarup said: “PM Sharif at #UNGA says India poses unacceptable conditions to dialogue”. Talks are no favour to Pakistan, they are in interest of both countries. They are essential to resolve our differences, especially the Jammu and Kashmir dispute, and to avert the danger of any escalation”.
India’s only condition is an end to terrorism.
What we see in Pakistan, Mr. President, is a terrorist state, which channelises billions of dollars, much of it diverted from global aid, to training, financing and supporting terrorist groups as militant proxies against it neighbours.
“The worldwide community ignores the dangers of rising tensions in South Asia at its own peril”, he said.
At the same time, the Pakistani leader warned the worldwide community against ignoring the dangers of the current Indo-Pakistan tensions, saying Pakistan will soon open consultations with the members of 15-nation Council to explore the modalities for implementation of the Security Council resolutions on Kashmir. “The Security Council must honour its commitments by implementing its own decisions”, he said.
Pakistan itself is a victim of external terrorism.
Addressing a press conference here moments after Sharif’s address, Akbar stated that Pakistan at the moment seems to be run by a war machine rather than a government.
In Muzaffarabad in Pakistan-controlled Kashmir, a Pakistani colonel said there was no firing along the border.
Kerry also stressed the need for restraint in nuclear weapons programmes. In the immediate aftermath of the Uri attack there was talk of cross border retaliation, however, according to sources the Indian government now plans to use other options to pin the blame on Pakistan and exact retribution.
