Tommie Woodward, 28, died while swimming in Adam’s Bayou in Orange.
Mr Woodward’s body later was found with puncture wounds to his upper chest and left arm.
A 28-year-old man went swimming in a Southwest Texas marina, at which point he was attacked and killed by an alligator.
In an emotional interview with KFDM, Wright said, “I saw his body floating face down”. Witnesses said his last words on dry land were: “F*** the alligators”.
“”Orange County Justice of the Peace Rodney Price reported on KFDM that Woodward jumped into the water despite his girlfriend’s warnings, exclaiming: “**** the alligators”.
Tommie Woodward ignored the signs about alligators on the Sabine River in Texas jumping into the water and was quickly attacked by the reptile predators..
According to police, marina employees put up a sign forbidding swimming after recently spotting a ‘pretty damn big’ 11-foot alligator in the water. “Just please stay out of the water”, but the next thing she heard was the woman screaming, “An alligator’s got him”.
He “made the ill-considered decision to go into the water”, Price said. He said the man jumped in the water, followed by his girlfriend on Friday morning (3 July).
For his part, Captain Robert Enmon of Orange County Police noted that “the woman who was with him saw the alligator approaching under the dock of the marina and said “hey, there is a alligator”. The alligator pulled him down and he came back up yelling”.
KPRC 2 is told Woodward’s body is being sent to St. Louis where his family lives.
Heavy rain has displaced alligators in the area in the last 45 days, causing them to become more territorial, especially as they’re in breeding season, authorities said.
An alligator attack is rare, accounting for the 200-year span between fatalities in the state.
