Pochettino has faith in Spurs’ youth
Mitrovic scored the equalising goal for Newcastle before Ayoze Perez grabbed a late victor.
McClaren praised the response from his players, with Newcastle 1-0 down at half-time after conceding through an Eric Dier header.
“It is not about one player”, Pochettino said. Tom Carroll’s positioning in the second half was opening Tottenham’s defense up over and over.
“The fans have been unbelievable to be fair, they have stuck with his”.
“We made mistakes and gave them the possibility to arrive at the goal”. That’s the pleasing thing for me.
“I just know the same as you – what I hear and what I read, it is a great pleasure for me (claims that Man Utd and Spurs want to sign him)….it is incredible, something very big and that is because I am doing well but I must go on”.
Newcastle United have strung two Premier League wins together for the first time since November 2014.
The two games will take place a week apart on February the 18th and 25th, with Spurs being the seeded team, having the honour of hosting the 2nd and deciding leg…
“We said after Liverpool: ‘That’s what we are”. Of course we wanted to keep the run going.
“We need to use that and play every game like this”.
“We have asked for consistency and the last two weeks they have provided that and it has brought everyone closer together”. And the players had that. Normally we can cope with that but not this time. But there’s still a long way to go.
The oft-maligned Frenchman, hailed by manager Arsene Wenger in the week as one of the deadliest marksman in Europe, received another hymn of praise from his manager after his early goal from the penalty spot in Arsenal’s 2-0 win at Aston Villa.
“I haven’t spoken to Mike Ashley”. But the character in the dressing room was great.
The Magpies, who beat Liverpool last weekend, came from behind to end Tottenham’s 14-game unbeaten streak with a 2-1 result at White Hart Lane thanks to late goals from substitute Aleksandar Mitrovic and Ayoze Perez. “Like today. Trying to make an impact when coming to the bench and then let’s see what happen in the next game(s)”. Though tireless workers, dutifully carrying out the instructions being barked at them from the touchline to squeeze the play and put the Spurs backline under pressure, they failed to provide much of an attacking threat. “We were disappointed and they were as well so I can understand”.
Perez is “delighted” with the team’s performance and believes that they “all fought for one another”.
