Pochettino proud of ‘amazing’ Tottenham
Lanzini pulled one back for West Ham three minutes from the end after getting past Walker and hammering the ball beyond Hugo Lloris into the roof of the net, but that didn’t dampen the celebratory mood inside White Hart Lane after a superb Tottenham performance saw them deservedly take all three points. We are in a period that we feel very proud of. If we want to win football matches that’s how we’ve got to play.
“I thought we could come back in the second half because we created a few good stuff but after the third goal, it just killed the game and to be fair after that it was all them. They were quicker and stronger than us and we move on”.
Harry Kane scored twice, bringing his tally to eight goals in five games, and defenders Toby Alderweireld and Kyle Walker were also on target at White Hart Lane as Pochettino’s enterprising young team equaled the club record of 12 consecutive Premiership games without defeat.
“We are not thinking too much ahead”, he said.
I hate talking about this stuff, but it’s news and needs to be reported.
There has always been a history of trouble and spur of incidents during such fixtures between the fierce London rivals and the crowd for this particular game was just under 36,000.
Pochettino added: “Maybe we come back, straight back [after the Europa League game on Thursday], and we give the players the day off on Friday”.
Alderweireld admits the last fortnight has been hard after the terrorist attacks in Paris, which claimed the lives of 130 people. “Paris is quite close to Belgium and in Brussels there’s a lot of problems there”. My brother is a police officer in Brussels so that’s why it affects you a little. They also clearly missed the guile of the injured Dimitri Payet. “It’s not a good situation and hopefully it’s quickly over”.
“All the Belgian guys talk of course, and the English guys, they’re hearing and reading the press as well, so they want to know what’s happening so everybody knows everything”.
Part of Spurs’ success comes from their grass-roots efforts, with the CIES Football Observatory reporting that Tottenham have developed more current Premier League players than any other club.
