Pochettino satisfied with Liverpool draw
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has insisted that Daniel Sturridge will get plenty of chances to play this season despite missing out against Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.
It took the visitors less than five minutes to carve out their first chance of the game when Philippe Coutinho was slipped in with just Michel Vorm to beat but the Dutchman stood strong to save with his feet.
Liverpool had the better of a frenetic, entertaining game at White Hart Lane and took the lead through James Milner’s 43rd-minute penalty after Roberto Firmino was tripped by Erik Lamela.
Liverpool fans were certainly impressed by Matip’s display, so much so that they think he should be Klopp’s first-choice centre-back.
Meanwhile, Milner and Dejan Lovren felt Liverpool let an opportunity for three points slip away at White Hart Lane. I’m really happy that we have him and he will play, he will score and all will be good’.
“We made one mistake in and around their goal and they also had a header from Alderweireld and a wonderful save from Simon”. “The only decision we made is that Milly can play it, especially in the kind of play we think we should play”.
“This game showed again what we can do, how we can play”.
Tottenham were fortunate they found enough to claim a point from a game in which they mostly toiled, while Liverpool had more than enough chances to have garnered all three points before Danny Rose escaped the general congestion to equalise. “There are of course new players, but not too many changes”, said the German, whose side lost at Burnley despite having over 80 percent of possession. We got in good areas time and time again but didn’t pick the right pass at the right time or put the ball in the net.
Souness said the England forward, who was left on the bench until the 88th minute of this draw, had a “mountain to climb” under Klopp.
Pochettino was the more satisfied of the two managers afterwards and hailed the “fantastic character” shown by his players as they fought to establish a foothold in the match. When you play a team who like to play on the counter attack you must take some risks.
“It’s true the first half was better for Liverpool, but in the second half we played, not well, but better, we competed”.
