Pocock escapes a citing following incident in win against Wales
Relieved Wallabies coach Michael Cheika will give David Pocock as much time as he needs to recover from a calf injury after the star flanker avoided a lengthy suspension following an incident against Wales last weekend.
Striking an opponent with your knee carries a penalty between 4-12 weeks.
The 27-year-old was handed a post-match warning – the equivalent of a yellow yard – but was not cited.
However with the 36-hour window following the Test for citings to be made having now closed, Pocock will be free to play. Pocock was a no-show at the Wallabies’ recovery session yesterday, instead staying at the team hotel with medical staff to continue work on his injured calf.
“It’s one thing speaking about it but we’ve been put in those situations in training and games, you need belief to get yourself out of those situations”, Mitchell said.
“I personally feel that those things have been dealt with relatively well”.
“There’s clear instructions. I think the referees on field are doing the same”.
They were set to be present in the United Kingdom to form the numbers with the minnows for the tournament. [Pocock] got held a bit [against] Fiji as well.
But still burnt by losing two of their last three games against Scotland, the Wallabies defence coach Nathan Grey says they won’t hold anything back on Sunday (Monday morning AEDT).
Hooper was eventually suspended for one week but was free to play in the opening Bledisloe Cup clash in Sydney after he was selected in Manly Marlins’ side for a Shute Shield finals match in Sydney; his naming among the reserves enough to fulfil the suspension requirements.
“With that guy’s mentality he could probably be ready tomorrow”, Cheika said.
“We’ll just let it play out, we’ll let it follow its course with the medics and go from there”.
Israel Folau battled through injury during the win over Wales.
The Wallabies will lay everything on the line against Scotland, adamant they will not rest star duo Israel Folau and David Pocock from the quarter-final showdown even if they are not fully fit.
