Pogba leaves Mourinho raving after ‘monster’ performance
World Cup victor Paul Pogba’s third minute penalty and a late goal from Luke Shaw gave Manchester United a 2-1 win over Leicester City at Old Trafford in the opening game of the Premier League season on Friday.
The biggest news is World Cup victor Paul Pogba being named as captain; whether this is a permanent decision remains to be seen.

Jose Mourinho heaped praise on Paul Pogba after handing him the captain’s armband during the Premier League 2018-19 season opener at Old Trafford on Friday, August 10.
The bigger problem for United is how the summer’s transfer business affects the club’s relationship with Mourinho when the only signings are Brazilian midfielder Fred, the injured Portuguese full-back Diogo Dalot and third-choice goalkeeper Lee Grant.
But the Spurs boss told reporters in his pre-Newcastle press conference that he’s more than happy to keep Alderweireld at the club and has claimed that the club received no offers for any of their players.
Referee Andre Marriner pointed to the spot with none of the hesitation shown in Pogba’s run up the spot-kick.
The two-time Champions League victor added: “At this point I’d just say we need to win”. “Pre-season was very hard and we needed this fantastic spirit by the players to manage this performance and this result”.
“In football you need time to work and players on the pitch to work and we didn’t have until now”.
“We don’t have a penalty-taker, it’s how we feel, and I made a decision to take it”, Pogba told Sky Sports.
“I chose to take it – I was one of the names – but maybe next time I can leave it to Alexis, it’s not a problem”.
Yes, they went ahead inside the first three minutes through Paul Pogba’s penalty, but what was important was the way they went after Leicester right from the off. I feel comfortable with him.
Just 26 days after lifting the World Cup with France, the 25-year-old scored an early penalty and dominated the midfield before being replaced after 84 minutes. I want to progress and get better again and I want to win more trophies.
