Pokemon Go Is A Bigger Hit Than Even Star Trek Beyond
The most interesting part of this achievement is that “Pokemon Go” was able to do that without any major paid advertising.
As well, the app has passed 180 million worldwide downloads since July, meaning it has been installed in roughly 12 percent of all smartphones. “Pokemon Go” is making more than $4 million net revenue on a daily basis from across the world, despite its ranking in some countries falling. It’s about US$100 million (AU$133 million) more than the previous August 5 report.
According to the report by SensorTower, Niantic has made a net revenue of over $308 million, which is $100 million more than a month ago.
Of course, some summer blockbusters have topped the game’s impressive total: “Finding Dory”, “Captain America: Civil War”, “The Secret Life of Pets”, “Suicide Squad” and “X-Men: Apocalypse” all made more than $440 million worldwide. Despite this great news, Pokemon Go failed to return to the top spot in app stores. For instance, “Pokemon Go” has outperformed such summer movies as “Star Trek Beyond” ($244 million in worldwide grosses), “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows” ($243 million) and “Ghostbusters” ($218 million). And while the game’s userbase has dipped here in the United States, the average amount to time players use Pokemon Go per day still exceeds 30 minutes per day.
According to analytical platform Sensor Tower, Pokemon Go has grossed more than $440 million from both the App Store and Google Play. In this post, we’ll check in on the app’s other metrics, as well as visualize this revenue milestone by a new one: comparing it to the global box office revenue of some of 2016’s most anticipated summer movies. Sensor Tower also predicts that Pokemon GO has been installed on 12% of active phones in the U.S. at some point in its existence, which is a pretty insane statistic.
