Pokemon Go officially out now and available for download
Shares of Japanese video games company Nintendo have soared by 16 per cent at the Tokyo Stock Exchange thanks to the stupendous success of its new smartphone game, Pokemon Go.
The augmented-reality mobile app launched in Australia, New Zealand and the US on July 6. If you are anxious about what developer Niantic was able to access when they had full permission, please note that the developer claims this setting did not give them the ability to use your Google account on your behalf.
Pokemon Go launched on July 5 in the United States and has since been released in several other countries.
According to the Financial Times, Niantic plans to invite retailers and restaurants to “sponsor” (i.e. pay to advertise) locations on the app’s virtual map.
PRIVACY: Users who download the game on an iPhone can access all of your Google data if you sign in using a Google account.
Niantic, however has opted to remain mum regarding the purported bug and have not made any comment on it so far. Well it seems we can put those fears to rest, as reports are coming in that the two apps will be compatible. Hopefully we’ll have news soon of an official Irish release, which will allow for updates to the software and proper access to in app purchases. Apple and Google also receive a share of Pokemon Go revenue.
MALWARE: Be aware, a malware version of the game has been found online. In the game, there are locations called PokeStops and Gyms, which correspond to real-life locations that they have to go to in order to pick up items or battle other trainers.
Nick Summers from technology site Engadget said the exploration aspect of the game should be praised, but should also come with a warning.
Analysts at investment bank Cowen said “Pokemon Go” could help address declining mall traffic. “For younger players especially, the usual advice applies here – be careful where you go and who you talk to”. Surprisingly, players using Google account to log in are able to load the game without facing any sort of log in issue, TheTimesOfIndia reported. Priced at $35, the device vibrates for gamers to simply press a button to capture a nearby Pokemon.
