Pokemon Go player streams assault, robbery in Central Park
A man playing Pokemon Go captured more than just those pesky little creatures – he caught his own mugging on video.
While escaping on foot, the assailant proceeded to factory reset the phone to its factory settings in order to delete its credentials.
Pokemon Go launched in July and has been linked to numerous robberies, with users staying out at night to play.
Rickeybot has streamed from Central Park – at night – repeatedly over the last week, and advertised his streams beforehand via Twitter.
Our thoughts go out to Rickeybot and hope he not only recovers from his injuries soon but that his assailant gets caught by police. My jaw is a mess. His Twitch account has been suspended, presumably to lock-out the person who has stolen his gear. A Twitch representative would not answer questions about why it was taken down, telling Ars, “We don’t comment on terms of service violations”. Rickeybot has confirmed that he has a high-quality video of the incident and that he has passed it over to the authorities.
Ricky Yaneza showed PIX11 the three iPhone devices he was holding to livestream his Pokemon Go search when he was viciously attacked by someone inside Central Park early Monday. The robber stole Yaneza’s phone and some other possessions and then fled, with the phone recording for some time as he ran away.
Rickeybot suffered a swollen jaw and bump on the head, but otherwise escaped the incident okay.
