Pokken Tournament’ Wii U controller coming to USA within months
Amazon has opened up pre-orders for the HORI Pokken Tournament Pro Pad Limited Edition controller for Wii U. This item has been officially licensed by Nintendo/Pokemon, and is based on the official Pokken Tournament arcade cabinet controller. Fortunately, that doesn’t seem to be the case after all, as the peripheral will also be arriving on American shores.
Pokken Tournament has become quite the sensation since its release back in July by developer Bandai Namco for the Wii U. The specialized Pokken Tournament controller from HORI will be available in the west. While there’s no product image for the controller on the site currently, Amazon has it listed for a March 16 release and you can pre-order it now for just $25. For U.S. customers, it appears that it will be released in “Quarter 2”, which is between April and June.
The special dedicated controller for “Pokken Tournament” looks to provide players with an authentic arcade experience through the use of the controller. However, the bundle could be made available outside of Japan as well.
It is important to note that this controller would not work for other games as a normal one. Players who purchase Pokkén Tournament during its initial launch will receive a Shadow Mewtwo amiibo card. According toan Amazon listing, the controller will be launching here on March 28, 2016.
A report in the InsightTicker.com says, “Like several Bandai Namco fighting games, Pokken Tournament is enjoying a fair first run through Japanese arcade systems before it makes a console debut”. In Japan, the controller will be part of the “Pokken Tournament” Wii U bundle. It might function on some other Wii U games, but not all features will be available. That means it won’t work with other Wii U games, similar to that of the Super Smash Bros.
Once again, Pokken Tournament is slated to launch on Wii U worldwide in the Spring of next year. It does not include the HORI controller. This is specially created to bring fans and Wii U owners comfort and replicate the arcade experience.
