Police association endorses Donald Trump in New Hampshire
Mr. Trump, the Republican presidential front-runner, made the promise while speaking in Portsmouth, New Hampshire alongside the New England Police Benevolent Association, which announced its endorsement of Mr. Trump at the event.
“At this point, those of us who are supportive of any party have to look at what is the best interest of our members”, he added.
As president, Mr Trump said he would “issue an executive order to make the death penalty” the punishment for anyone who killed a police officer.
The Porstmouth event with police officers attracted one of the largest anti-Trump protests yet.
Trump provided no details of how such an executive order would work or its legality, especially with a growing number of states discontinuing use of the death penalty and with the federal government’s limited jurisdiction. “Well, you know what?”
Across the street, a smaller pro-Trump crowd gathered in support of the billionaire businessman and his Muslim ban. “We’ve got to let our police have the finest equipment and the finest training and if we don’t”, he said, “we’re making a tremendous mistake as a country”.
“Police officers throughout this country have had a hard time”.
Republican presidential contender Donald Trump called for the death penalty for those who kill police officers.
“He seems to be a supporter of law enforcement which is something that we have not seen from the current administration”, said Batista, 53.
The union represents almost 5,000 members from about 200 locals across the region, according to Flynn, but has not received much attention from candidates campaigning in the early-voting state.
Trump also remarked on the heat he has taken in recent days since he called for banning Muslims from entering the United States.
“Every time I see a conflict, I see a van pull up, I see an armor-plated Humvee pull up”.
“Those are the same people who stood out in the middle of (Interstate) 93 laying down on the sidewalk saying, ‘Black lives matter, ‘” Flynn said. “All people deserve to come to this country as long as they are not hateful, and we are a country of faith and opportunity and we should stay that way”. “I see nearly a tank in some cases pull up”, he said. I don’t like the idea of that, but you know what, I think right now that’s a good idea to keep us safe. The CNN/WMUR poll showed Trump with 32 percent, and US Senator Marco Rubio of Florida with 14 percent.
